What is the principle of LCR digital meter ?

LCR digital meter is an instrument used to measure inductance, capacitance and resistance. It is based on the principle of electric bridge and utilizes the phase difference and amplitude change of an AC electrical signal passing through the component to be measured to measure the electronic component’s parameters.

What is an LCR digital meter

The LCR digital meter is an instrument used to measure inductance, capacitance, and resistance parameters. It is widely used in incoming material inspection, PCB manufacturing, and failure analysis. It is controlled by digital technology and microprocessor to realize the automation of the measurement process. Its basic composition is the test signal source, the component under test, the reference component and the detection circuit.

What are the advantages of LCR digital meter

LCR digital meters have many advantages over traditional bridges, the most obvious of which are high-precision measurement and automated operation. The application of digital technology makes the measurement more accurate and reduces human error. The user only needs to input the parameters, and the instrument will automatically complete the measurement process, which greatly improves the test efficiency. In a short time, the LCR digital meter can complete the measurement, saving the user’s precious time. The digital display makes the measurement results clear at a glance, and the inductance, capacitance or resistance values in digital form are easy to read and record.

Where is the LCR digital bridge used

● Magnetic material
Permeability and loss angle evaluation of ferrite, amorphous and other magnetic materials.

● Semiconductor material
Dielectric constant, conductivity and characteristics of semiconductor materials; Liquid crystal materials: dielectric constant, elastic constant and other characteristics of liquid crystal.

What is the principle of LCR digital meter

The principle of LCR digital meter
The principle of LCR digital meter

1.Electric bridge principle: The principle of the bridge is to compare the component under test with the standard component (reference component), and adjust some parameters in the bridge (such as resistance, capacitance, inductance, etc.) to make the bridge balance, so as to measure the Parameters of the component. When the electric bridge is balanced, the voltage and current through the component under test and the standard component are equal.

2. Working principle: The power supply in the LCR digital meter applies a fixed-frequency signal to the component under test. A part of the signal will pass through the component to form a transmitted signal; another part of the signal will be reflected back to form a reflected signal. The LCR bridge meter calculates the inductance, capacitance, and resistance of a component by measuring the magnitude and phase difference of the transmitted and reflected signals.

3. Inductance measurement: When measuring inductance, the LCR digital meter connects the inductance to be tested with the reference inductance, and adjusts the parameters in the electric bridge according to the balance condition of the bridge. Adjust the resistance or capacitance to make the bridge reach a balanced state. When the electric bridge is balanced, the measured transmitted signal (passing through the inductance under test) and reflected signal (reflected signal) are equal in amplitude and zero in phase difference. Through these signals and combined with the parameters of the bridge, the value of the inductance to be measured can be calculated.

4. Capacitance measurement: When measuring capacitance, the LCR digital meter connects the capacitance to be tested with the reference capacitance, and adjusts the resistance or inductance to balance the bridge. When the bridge is balanced, the amplitude of the transmitted signal and the reflected signal are equal and the phase difference is zero. Through these signals and combined with the parameters of the bridge, the value of the capacitance to be measured can be calculated.

5. Resistance measurement: When measuring resistance, the LCR digital meter connects the resistance to be measured with the reference resistance, and adjusts the resistance or inductance to balance the bridge. When the bridge is balanced, the amplitude of the transmitted signal and the reflected signal are equal and the phase difference is zero. From these signals, combined with the parameters of the bridge, the value of the resistance to be measured can be calculated.

6. Display and calculation: LCR digital meters are usually equipped with a display screen, which can display the amplitude and phase difference of the transmitted signal and the reflected signal on the screen. These measurements data can be used to calculate the values of inductance, capacitance and resistance to derive the parameters of the component under test.

Conclusion

To sum up, the LCR digital meter utilizes the bridge principle to measure inductance, capacitance and resistance. By adjusting the parameters in the bridge to achieve a balanced state, measure the amplitude and phase difference of the transmitted signal and the reflected signal, and then use these data to calculate the parameter value of the component under test. This method of bridge testing provides accurate and reliable inductance, capacitance, and resistance values and is an important instrument often used for testing and troubleshooting electronic components.
